Don’t be scared to fly alone

Critters, Etsy Love, Studio Update, Tasmanian Artists, The Grateful Red

I think this is something we all need to keep in mind (me especially).  So often I am consumed by ideas that I am too timid to follow through with.  So as part of my Critter collection I have added this inspirational quote alongside ‘Morgan’, who, though looking hesitant is taking that leap and flying alone, above the treetops.

Morgan was only completed last night and is freshly available on my Etsy store here.

2016 – the Year of the Critters!

Etsy Love, Studio Update, Tasmanian Artists, The Grateful Red

Welcome to 2016… officially the Year of the Critters!

After launching my first Critters at the end of 2015 they have been a huge success and I have started working on adding to the Critter family in 2016.

First up is ‘Geraldine’.  Geraldine is a very Zen Critter.  She focuses on inner peace and harmony.  Geraldine’s mediation mantra is “Sky above me, Earth below me, Fire within me”.

Please welcome Geraldine to the Critter family.

#makeforgood

Etsy Love, Studio Update, Tasmanian Artists, The Grateful Red

Have you heard about the #makeforgood campaign that is about to launch?

Etsy Australia is partnering with Plan Australia to ‪#‎makeforgood‬, a project aiming to change the world for girls. Creatives from all over Australia are joining together to make meaningful products and donating to support projects that help women.

It’s not as easy for all women around the world to start their own business. In many developing countries, women are unlikely to secure a bank loan. Girls are unlikely to be given the same access to education as their male counterparts, and they’re often subject to gender based violence, child marriage, and are more likely to suffer from poor health and nutrition.

Plan International’s Because I Am A Girl campaign is aiming to break down these barriers and change the world for girls. They believe that if they can help break down the barriers that prevent millions of girls around the world from gaining the education and skills they need to move from poverty to opportunity, that girls really will be able to transform the world for the better.

Etsy’s community of Australian sellers care about girls’ rights and have decided to get together to support Plan’s Because I Am A Girl campaign in their work to change the world for girls.

Throughout October many creatives such as myself will be donating 20% of the sale price of items that they have created specifically for the cause to #makeforgood.

You can search #makeforgood on etsy to see all the products available – a great way to start Christmas shopping!

I have four items for sale for #makeforgood… here they are:

Etsy Love – Yvonne’s Workshop

Etsy Love

Thanks to Averyll from The Handmade Exchange for this awesome Etsy spot!

Welcome to Yvonne’s Workshop!

Here is a little bit about Yvonne:

“Honestly, I cannot imagine spending a single day without having created something. It does not have to be an act of painting or needle felting, knitting or sewing, sometimes it is just figuring out a new recipe or finally being able to grow the perfect vegetables in the garden. To me art is anywhere. But in terms of actually making things for people to enjoy, my friends and family all urged me and pushed me to start selling instead of giving it away. My husband would like it if I could support my art financially (I guess my ideas can be rather expensive) and my friends all thought I was crazy to fill my shelves quietly and not going anywhere with my critters and such so I finally took the plunge and opened my Etsy shop. It does tickle me pink to know someone out there loves my art and wants it! I named the shop Yvonne’s Workshop, because I simply cannot just make one single kind of art. I get ideas that are too powerful to ignore ( I am growing willows because baskets are in my future) but for now, I really love wool and needle felting. I still illustrate when I get a strong inspiration too so future paintings may appear in the shop as well. The sky is the limit and I love it that way : )”

I have (and always will) love Morgan Freeman.  Now more than ever!  With the growing concern over the future of our bee communities Morgan has taken on board the adage – if you can do something – do it!

My Spirit Animal – the Sloth

Etsy Love, The Grateful Red

I have two favourite animals in the world – the Echidna and the Sloth. Let’s leave the Echidna for the moment and concentrate on the Sloth… why sloths.

  1. they are so chilled
  2. they have the cutest dang faces in the world
  3. their arms are made for hugging

Seriously – what’s not to love?

So this week’s I love Etsy is proudly brought to you by the letter ‘S’  for sloth.

And as a nod to one of my favourite blogs my OBT … there is a felted sloth!
